Why allow tapered sheets?
I thought the reason not to allow them was to keep costs down and maintain a tight one-design class. Is Melges loosing focus on original design specs for the M20?
This is bad if it portends an arms race in the class. That will drive up costs in a class that was supposed to be about simple fun, fast racing at an affordable price point.
The racing is very close and intense – and won or lost not because of tapered sheets. Given the length of the sheets and the amount of taper, the weight savings will be less than taking an extra bottle of water aboard.
Can we make them more comfortable on the hands – yes – so I welcome having light sheets but larger tails to help the hands!
